First Mortgage Company in Norman, OK

Our experience started out great, but in 3Q 2013 rates started rising very fast AFTER we had locked our rate with First Mortgage Co (FMC). FMC allowed our rate lock to expire, then tried to blame this on us by saying we had delayed paperwork. I honestly didn't know so I checked my e-mail records as all documentation was sent by e-mail. It turns out that in ever single case we sent the paperwork the very same day it was requested by FMC, and FMC always confirmed that they had received it, so the delay was not our fault in any way. FMC refused to reduce our rate even after I showed them the e-mail record. At no time did they ever indicate that our lock was at risk of expiring. They kept requesting new paperwork up until the date it expired, including items like our current homeowner's insurance premium (for our old house), which should have no impact on our loan closing...people have cable bills that cost more than my homeowner's insurance premium on our old house. Consequently, we ended up with a higher rate costing us thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. Edit - 4-8-14: Two months after writing a check to FMC for our first year of homeowner's insurance (since they are handling escrow and making insurance payments on our behalf), I received a cancellation notice from my insurance company for lack of payment. FMC never forwarded my payment to the insurance company. A lack of care and professionalism seems to be par for the course for FMC. One more problem, FMC has no means for checking your mortgage account status online or for making online payments. Everything has to be done over the phone or by snail mail. These guys are stuck in 1993.
