After visiting with several jewlers in Des Moines, and not getting the answers I was looking for, I decided to go to a place that I remembered dealing with over 10 yrs ago. The name of the jewelry store is SOLAR LOAN & SALES on Ingersoll Ave. in Des Moines Ia. I was so happy to see the same familiar and friendly faces! Steve greeted me right away, we talked, negotiated, and needless to say I walked out very happy with the business that we did. I felt that he was honest and more than fair with his prices. The owner is great to work with. My husband and I were looking for high-quality engagement rings cheaper than the main jewelry store prices. We visited the store one day in the summer on a whim, and found a beautiful ring. Several months later, we returned to see if that ring was still available. He remembered us and helped us find an even better, cheaper, perfect ring for me. He wasn't there to trick or swindle us; he was there to help us find exactly what we were looking for. His pricing was incredibly lower than most jewelry stores to begin with, and we were still able to negotiate to a lower price. We were able to afford my gorgeous engagement ring without taking a loan out for it! I'd like to give him 5 stars, however, the second time we came into the shop, he had a jeweler working with him. This jeweler had very poor social skills, and was breathing down our necks the whole time. He didn't let us have private conversations about the ring, and we left before making a decision because of it. BUT, the owner is wonderful to work with, and very helpful!
