So for several years I have had lots of different folks tell me that I either should or shouldn't bother go through the crazy difficult process of buying a house here in Hawaii. So for many years I rented. As I rented I watched my retirement, benefits, and savings just all go into a strangers pockets. Not to mention the fact that after eight years of renting I was paying 34% more in rent than when I started with another rent increase around the corner and no improvements made. I had to make a change before I could only afford a slum rental. I knew the purchase process would be stressful, long and confusing. I went to VUHL of Hawaii and listened to everything they had to say. Later I had a one on one talk with them and tried to explain everything I was going through and that I was really unsure if I could be a home owner at this point in my life. I think what made me want to work with them is the fact that they all seemed rather sure that they could help me. We found I still had a very large amount of unused mortgage benefits, which I did not know. I knew I was working with the right team when I became ill for an extended period and when I was feeling better I came back to see them and found that we were almost able to pick up right where we left off. It took a while to get the rest of my verification's and papers in order but the team knew every step that needed to be taken to get it done and I was pre-approved for a loan that was well inside my budget, and I did not make it easy on them I'm sure because I gave myself a small budget. Before long we were ready to talk offer on a condo and then a signing and close. I'm happy to say that I am in my new place, I'm out from under those big rental increases and lack of improvements, and I'm even starting to sleep a little better. Jason Scott who is my lender has been a Godsend since our first meeting. His knowledge and acumen in this field as well as his method of explaining all the details which a new homeowner like myself is very down to earth and I truly feel he has my back. Veterans United is awesome! They make the process of purchasing a home really smooth for us military personnel. I attended the seminar, which made me decided to work with them for my mortgage loan. I highly recommend the seminars, it is enlightening and refreshing for those who have little to no knowledge on the process of purchasing a home in Hawaii.
