I would would caution people to really do your homework. I worked with Jim (The President of the New Milford branch) to try to refinance my mortgage & decrease my interest rate in order to decrease my monthly mortgage payment. I submitted my paperwork to him directly, but there were discrepancies with the closing cost he quoted me over the phone & the closing cost that was on the paperwork (a >$400 difference). I questioned him about the difference in closing cost to which he disregarded my concerns. He told me over the phone that "the max out of pocket at closing you'll need, which includes the appraisal, is $3164. On the paperwork I noticed I was being charged $3500 for closing costs. When I spoke with him face to face he told me the $3500 included the appraisal. I ignored it because I at that time, I knew I was not able to trust him. I investigated other lenders the same day & found the same rate with approximately $1000 lower closing costs. I called his office to tell him I was going through a different lender, and his true colors came out. He stated sternly, "you realize I just locked your rate 5 minutes ago & that cost me money!" I apologized & asked if he could "do any better with the closing costs" to which he replied, "I'm already making practically nothing on the deal & I can't pay your closing costs for you". I never asked nor expected my closing costs to be paid by anyone other than myself. He said sternly, "If you want to go to another person & they're offering you what you think is a better deal, then fine, go with someone else!". I asked him to please send my paperwork back to me & I politely thanked him for his time. I would just please encourage people to do their homework & be cautious of tristate unless the costs that you're quoted over the phone are exactly what are stated on your Good Faith Estimate & mortgage agreement. Be careful.
