Northeast Alliance Federal Credit Union in New Haven, CT

One rainy Sunday, the ATM charged my debit card for $100, but didn't give me any money. I went to the bank on the following Monday and tried to get my money back, but the bank staff in charge of my question were not helpful. The staff person a) couldn't pinpoint the loss of my money and b) acted perturbed rather than sympathetic. She only told me to write a letter to the main office. I did that but no help. The reason why I give two stars instead of one is because the bank was close to my dorm at Yale. Also some of the tellers were sweet. But if given the chance again, I wouldn't join NEAFCU.

NEA is a pretty bad institution. They hold your money for ransom, don't refund any ATM fees, place hold on portions of ALL checks deposited, sometimes for as long as a week. They are basically swallowing up all the smaller credit unions in the area. I used to be a member of Westchester Federal credit union which started as AT&T's credit union. They were good. NEA is bad. I've already opened an account with USAA. Just waiting for my checks and debit card to arrive in the mail so I can switch my direct deposit and transfer my funds out of NEA.

I've gone there wanting to withdraw some money from my account.. they said they didnt have any cash.. I said "your a bank, how do you now have cash".. Little shit guy from behind the counter said "we aren't a bank" The best they could do is give me a check that I can take to a bank to get cash.. I only have CC with them now because of the APR.. just make sure the payments are on time!!!

NEAFCU has the worst customer service I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. From the rude tellers to the incompetent people on the phones. It often takes 3 or more phone calls to resolve a situation because they have no idea what they are doing. They are indifferent, offensive and rude. I despise them and have pulled all my direct deposit with the exception of a small amount I keep for vacations. So many other wonderful credit unions out there. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

We recently went to the Credit Union for a car loan. I found Joyce the person who helped us very nice ,knowledgeable and helpful. We completed the application in the office and had the vehicle in one week without a problem. We were treated with respect and courtesy. I would recommend the credit union if you are going for a loan. My husband goes there often and has good experiences also. Treat people the way you want to be treated. You can catch more bees with honey rather than with vinegar.
