American Eagle Financial Credit Union in East Hartford, CT

I have been a customer here for years. I am constantly amazed by the poor customer service - especially via phone. My calls are usually placed on hold for long periods. I leave messages that are not returned. When traveling to other countries, I find that my AEFCU ATM card does not work. If you need a good "hometown" bank, AEFCU is probably fine but if you want a good all around bank that makes highly mobile customers feel supported, find someplace else.

Do not bank here! I was scammed into opening an account to apply for a loan. I was told it was necessary and that if I wished I could keep the money in the account or close it after the loan process. I was told all these great things and that there were no fees, etc. etc. So I decided to keep my money in the account as savings only to find out I've been getting charged every month for "inactivity"! I thought that was the point of savings! You're supposed to let it sit so you can collect interest and save!? Now I'm getting charged for saving my money!? See ya later, reported to Attorney General. You've been warned.

Banked with AE FCU for years. Banks in general kinda suck but this is the best I've found. A credit union is the way to go if you wanna tell BOA and JP Morgan where to stick it. They are pretty accommodating. Course i never needed a loan or anything like that. Another person said their ATM card didn't work abroad. I traveled abroad and had no such issue. CC companies monitor you accounts and will cancel cards if they see a lot of weird activity. I warned them before I traveled, and had no problem. The minimum balance is 5 dollars in savings. No more no less. Which is nice for the average person living paycheck to paycheck. Plus I get 4 free ATM transactions a month which is pretty sweet since when traveling I can't find a AE branch.

Today I was reminded that there are good companies out there that truly care about their customers. My issue today was handled quickly and caringly and all the employees involved were truly wonderful. This is a great bank and I can't imagine bringing my accounts anywhere else.
