Member One Federal Credit Union in Rocky Mount, VA

We've been banking here for 20 years - they've been great- through 2 mortgages, 2 car loans, checking, saving, etc. No problems at all.

This is the Member One down the street from the bowling alley. I like it and think its one of the best banks in Rocky Mount but i dont appreciate the disrespect and nosiness from the employee that helped my grandmother and I the other day. The other day I came in and my grandmother was buying some equipment and a new tractor for my grandfather. She needed a large cashiers check valued at $10,000. She had no idea how to do it as shes never had a cashiers check made before. My grandmother asked "how do i do it? do i make it out to you, in your name?" I said "no. ill help you do it" When the employee called us over my grandmother asked me again what i wanted her to do. I told her ask them to make you a cashiers check but first let them pull up your account. They pulled up her account and she told them she wanted the cashiers check. She asked me "Do you want it in your name?" I said "no." and asked for a piece of paper to write the guys name down who we were buying the equipment/ tractor from. Before I could write it down the employee asked "Do you work or anything?" I asked why she would ask that. The employee said "Because shes giving you so much money." I told her "no, shes not giving me the money its for something else. Please mind your own business." The employee, a girl, looked at me like I cussed her or something. I again said "mind your own business, thanks." My grandmother said "Yeah, im giving it to him, what does it matter to you?" and she kind of laughed about it. The girl didnt say anything else. That was a rude employee. She should never question a customer like that and even if my grandmother was giving me the $10,000, what would that matter to her?

I went inside this bank about 10 days ago to get a roll of quarters. I was asked if I had an account with them - which I do not - and was told that they were not allowed to make any cash transactions with me if I wasn't an account holder with Member One. I went further down the road to another bank, Carter Bank & Trust, and was able to get a roll of quarters without being asked if I held an account with them. It's a sad day when you can't go into any bank to exchange funds without having to have an account with said bank. One thing is for sure, I will never consider or recommend doing business with Member One or any bank that has these types of restrictions and/or requirements.

Member One has always been good to me, every since I started banking with them at age 15. Loans, credit lines, & forgiveness and understanding when things get rough. Thank you for the excellent service!

My mom had to go through a SERVICE Phone station to call her local Rocky mount bank....I asked the man to just please give me the local branch # to call, and was informed that ALL calls go through them, and HE could transfer me.... :( Also a few weeks before...Same Answer service was "Passing On" a very important message for my mom to the bank manager at her bank...since that is "How they do things". The manager Never got the message, and Mom was never called back. I went in!!!..... I used to have member one years ago....LOVED IT!!! Not anymore!!!
