[*]...make that 6 stars. I can't say enough good things about RatePro Mortgage and its president, Rick Gilbert. I came to him several weeks ago hoping (against hope, I'll admit) to refinance my property from a 7-year adjustable to a 30-year fixed. Because I live on a farm with a relatively unique setup, my previous bank first told me that we wouldn't be able to secure a 30-year rate because the comparable sales (comps) in the area were lacking, and the bank wouldn't be able to lock in a rate for that long. Cut to three years later, and I ask my mortgage rep to look into it, thinking the market has likely improved some and should make it easier to find comps. She said she would find out what she could do, and I never heard back from her. Meanwhile, I decided it would also be worth checking out the mortgage place down the street from my home. I figured since they were local, they might know the area better and could figure out how to get us into a nice, cozy, 30-year fixed mortgage while rates were still low. Turns out I was right. I emailed him on a Saturday afternoon, and come Monday morning at 9:00, I get a call from Rick. After a brief and friendly discussion, he sets an appointment for me to come in and talk details. I told him my concerns about our property and the comps issue, and he smiled. "I don't think you'll have a problem," he said reassuringly. And we didn't. Long story short, my wife and I just signed our closing paperwork yesterday on our new 30-year fixed rate. We shaved almost a full point from our APR, and rolled our home mortgage together with a home equity loan we took out shortly after moving into our home. We've taken hundreds of dollars off our monthly mortgage payment, and we won't need to worry about the rate going up. EVER. And all of this was done inside of a month. Granted, our circumstances might be different from a lot of other folks. We have excellent credit, a fair amount of equity and a relatively low loan-to-value ratio. Still, our previous bank seemed to ignore these details. Rick, on the other hand, knew better. Whatever your situation, I highly recommend RatePro. Rick is a great guy to work with. He's highly responsive, honest, and friendly. And he really knows what he's doing. If I have the means to purchase or build another home in the future, I'm calling Rick Gilbert.

I cannot recommend this company. I contacted Rate Pro since supposedly they specialize in helping self employed persons to buy a home. After speaking with the owner, Rick Gilbert, although I had some reservations, since he was rather sarcastic and did not seem overly eager to help, I did decide to send my information to see if I would be able to obtain a loan. Obviously, if this were a professional company, even if they could not help, they could certainly have the professionalism and courtesy of a response either way. I sent my personal financial records and after initially going over some details I never heard from them after following up to see what I qualified for. I then contacted another lender and had a pre- qualification the very next day.I would have not rated this company with even one star, but had to in order to post the review.
