Years ago I tried to refi my mortgage to a smaller payment, lower total amount at a better rate. I was approved after jumping through all the hoops, sending in my tax returns, etc. They then sent me the paperwork to sign. Next day I get a call saying I wasn't approved. No explanation. Nothing. I didn't even get my returns back. We are talking about a very small loan for less monthly than I had been paying for years. I've still got an account with them. I was required to open to get the refi. To this day they mail me offers - "pre approvals" for $40,000 car loans. $50,000 personal loans. Even buy a bicycle on credit. Sorry. This isn't how I or anyone should do business. As I said this was years ago and this still turns my stomach to think about. I'll never get over it and never forgive Virginia credit union. I recommend going to one of the smaller local banks in town. What I did and I couldn't be happier.
