They get 1 star because a partial star isn't an option! We wanted to borrow money for having a pool built in our yard. Capital One seemed the best bet, with favorable rates and 0 (ZERO) origination costs. They handle the appraisal and all fees associated with the loan. The application process was smoothly handled by the branch, and then we were passed off to the mortgage branch somewhere else. Once this happened, the headaches started coming, and kept on coming. 1) Our assigned loan officer was unreachable for a week. Apparently he was out of the office, and had no replacement or substitute arranged. No "Out of Office, please call this number" message on voice mail. Other officers couldn't access all of our information due to security protocols (or so we were told). 2) their appraisal (non-Cap One) was questionable. The man they hired used the LOWEST value in our neighborhood to assess our property, not an average, or even a comparable BR/BT count. None of the properties used were listed above our value, they were all smaller / less expensive homes, and thusly cost us about $22000 in possible loan amount. They gave us a counteroffer amount at this point. 3) Due to this, I tried contacting my loan officer over the course of 3 days. I finally called the branch, and had them contact the lending branch, and I got a call back within 5 minutes. Pathetic customer service. I was also unable to get a hold of my loan officer's supervisor as well, so possibly the issue is more than a single person? 4) We were told conflicting accounts of how to handle the questionable appraisal. Our assigned office said there was nothing we could do. Another loan officer covering the main phone line explained the formal appeal process in detail. 5) After deciding to take what they counter offered, due to the time it would take for the appeal, we started scheduling the closing. They gave us a date, and I requested a day off of work for that date. This was approved. 2 days before the appointment, we were told it was put on hold due to a "problem with the Title from the Title Company", and that it would have to be pushed back. I could not call back into work, since my replacement had already been arranged. 6) We rescheduled the closing, and learned that there was a set time after the appraisal had been mailed that we had to wait before closing. This coincided with the "Title Problem", so we strongly suspect that they are covering up the fact that it took them 2 weeks to mail us the appraisal (after they told us it was already in the mail). I had to take another day off of work, losing more wages / bonuses for their issues. 7) At the final closing, we are going through the paperwork with the Branch Banker, the loan officer is never met face to face. In the first pack of papers that we are supposed to sign, they discolse the fees for everything, as well as the total amount borrowed. The fees were correct, however the loan amount was nearly $1000 less than what we were given in the counter offer. At this point we told them no, and walked out. We are pulling our other accounts from CapitalOne as well, due to this experience. All in all, I believe I had put in 20+ calls over the 4 weeks to my loan officer, and not a single one was returned. Emails were better, but if I wanted anything done I had to get the branch banker to make a call for me.

I only need to change the address for my account. Two bank tellers had no customer, but they couldn't help. I had to wait 2 hours to see the main guy. This bank suck! I'm going to close my account.
