Review OpenRoad Lending

I contacted Open Road Lending early in 2016 to help me refinance my car to a lower interest rate. They were glad to help me and handle the transaction fairly quick. So at that point I was happy. Not until this January did I find out that the "service" I thought they had given me really turned out to be a dis-service. In January my caught on fire and was a total loss. As my primary insurance paid the value of the car off as expected... the GAP insurance that Open Road had required me to get did not pay the balance of my loan. It was always my understanding that GAP insurance was always to pay the balance of any loan that you have on the car...which in the event of a total loss would protect me from having to pay for a car I no longer was able to use. Good idea and I fine with this requirement. Remember that Open Road has a company they use...so this was not an option for me anyway...but I was glad to have that extra "insurance". The GAP insurance that I signed papers for with Open Road Lending was called SecureGap. After dealing with them I was told that this GAP would not pay for the balance of my loan. I was dumb founded. They told me that Open Road should not have offered me THIS GAP coverage and they would only pay a portion of what was owed.. You see I had originally bought a warranty from the dealer and that was financed...and not to mention the premium for the GAP insurance was also added to the loan and the fees for the loan itself. Long story short.. I am stuck paying about 2K for a car I no longer have while trying to get another car. The GAP insurance company was a joke. Their original paperwork said their name was SecureGap...the company I was dealing with was Wise F and I.... and the check came from Old Republic Insured Automotive Services. This truly seems to be some sort of scam to me.. Everyone pointing the finger at whose fault this is....but me being the consumer is the one that is suffering a loss.. None of the companies...Open Road, Kinecta Credit Union, or whatever the name of the GAP company seem to care... I feel that Open Road should have cover the balance owed since they gave me that GAP company.. Oh yeah...they did throw $1300,, towards the balance after a few weeks of deciding what they should do... I think paying the balance is what they should have morally done...after all ... the Gap insurance told me they use a different value book to determine what the value of the car was as opposed to what my primary insurance company uses... really!!!.. How would I know this...I thought...being a consumer... that Open Road would "look out for me" and provide me with the appropriate coverage.. Wrong!!!!! So Beware of companies that seem willing to help you...cause the morals of helping someone aren't what they used to be.

Got a letter today offering to lower my interest rate from 17 to 10 and my car payment by $85 a month. Thank goodness I read this review. I did not know it was recommended by Credit Karma. Maybe time to unsubscribe from them, too.

Thank you all! I am grateful for all your feed back. I was on the phone calling them when I read these reviews and immediately hung up. I am happy these review opportunities exist. Great way to keep others from getting screwed too!

Miserable experince. Got an offer letter lowering my interest from 17.99 to 12.55. I was excited because I've been working hard on my credit to be able to refinance my loan for less interest. I almost didn't apply for it because I thought it was a scam but I decided to after seeing it had a good rating on BBB. MISTAKE. They approved me at the 12.55 interest rate and I was excited and relieved that my hard work had paid off and I'd be in a better situation. They then sent me documents to sign but had changed the interest rate to 17.43 for a term of 62 months. I only have 57 left on my current loan. Had I signed assuming the interest rate was what they originally quoted me, I would be paying more interest rather than less. Please do not waste your time with this scam. And if you do want to try to refinance with them BE CAREFUL.
