FirstMerit Bank in Streetsboro, OH

Great except when it's not. I have nothing to say about First Merit as a bank. One bank is pretty much the same as another in my opinion. This branch is somewhat inconvenient being stuck off on a side street of Rte. 14. The real issue with this branch is the customer service. It's either great or horrible. No in-between. And no management that is visible to the naked eye. It's a free-for-all and you are at the mercy of the tellers (who are mostly good with one notable exception) and whoever else wanders in wearing a blue shirt. They never explain their job profile. They just walk around in the blue shirt. I have been banking here for 5 years and have never seen the same management people twice. The result is that you don't know them and they don't know you and they don't seem to know exactly what they're doing and you might not get the treatment you would hope to receive as a valued customer. And when you are handing people a sizeable chunk of money you like to be treated as a valued customer. My advice: look elsewhere. First Merit may be a decent bank but this particular branch just does not feel like a bank to me. It's more like a donut shop vibe. A mix of very professional people and people who are really not that professional at all. And although I'm not picky in a donut shop, when people are handling my money I like to feel like a) they understand what I am saying to them and I understand what they are saying to me without any ESL or language issues, which is not always the case at this branch and b) they behave in a professional manner, not just with me but at all times. Last time I was there one male employee was laughing with a female employee about a customer, saying like "Oh she's gonna get a surprise," and first of all, don't laugh at customers in front of other customers because we know you will do the same thing about us when we walk out the door. B) If you must do it, do it more quietly. It's not a hog-calling contest, it's a bank. Thumbs down.
