HUNT Mortgage in Lancaster, NY

Here's my story. I swear to its honesty! You need to read this in its entirety to believe it. You can be the judge... We bought a home through Hunt Realty in upstate NY in April, 2015. We live out-of-state. Hunt begged for us to give their Mortgage Dept. a chance at being the lender, and since I had a good experience with the realtor, we decided to give Hunt Mortgage a shot. Boy was that a mistake! Things went awry from the beginning. A few days into the process, on a Monday, the head mortgage lender (TF) sent me an email saying (taken directly from his email): "I will be in meetings for the majority of the day today with limited access to phone and email". As it turns out, he went on a 3 day skiing trip. We had questions regarding timely information that we were required to submit but were unable to contact him for days. Who does that...lies so blatantly? And why would we care if he told the truth? A week later, we flew into town to see the home and reached out to TF. He said he was busy but would gladly call us back later that night or the next morning. Neither happened. After we returned to our current residence, I called for his reason for not contacting us and to ask Q's on clarification of a property tax issue. The man started YELLING at me over the phone! Who does that... yells at a client whom is borrowing 100's of thousands of dollars? I had enough, so I wrote a review with the local BBB. They called the president of Hunt Mortgage (LM) to see if it was true. LM in-turn, called me, I told her my story and she found everything I said was the truth. She sounded very concerned, so I canceled my complaint. Boy, am I sorry! Yes, there's more... Since we could not attend the closing, we used THEIR attorney to represent us as our power of attorney. 2 weeks later, we still did not have the closing papers! So I wrote an email asking where our documents were. We owned a new home for 2 weeks and did not have the paperwork! Who does that? Turns out, the lawyer was holding the closing papers ransom for a $70 charge they FORGOT to include in the closing statement! Buying a home is one of the biggest purchases anyone does in their lifetime and you would hope the experience could be a very pleasant one. But take it from an experienced home buyer (I've bought 7 homes) this is the LAST place you should look to use as your lender! Additionally, they sold the mortgage within days. Its a turnkey operation, so it makes sense that they don't care about their clients.

Love this company! We went through the Lancaster office and they were amazing! Had gone through an online company on prior home and dealt with a mortgage guy in another state - it was terrible! We had to call and chase the guy constantly. Dealing with a local company was way better. They were faster and easier to deal with. They were understanding and were very helpful. Every time our file went to a different stage of the process we got an email as well - updating us as to where we stood. I highly recommend HUNT mortgage and HUNT realty as well.
