Somerset Hills Bank in Morristown, NJ

I came to SHB from BofA, looking for more friendly service. I found it, but I'm now going back to BofA for competence. SHB has very friendly staff. SHB, however, is unable to administer even the most simple credit card operations. They impose a quite low credit limit, rendering their "business" card as a practical matter unusable by businesses. (The credit limit is so low you can't buy a computer and printer at Staples). This is apparently company-wide policy: my average cash balance is enough to buy a high-end Mercedes, but I don't get a significantly higher limit. More frustrating, SHB automatically re-sets your credit limit to the lowest level every time they issue you a new card; if you lose your card, or simply get your biannual replacement, your credit limit is reset. I like the tellers very much. In contrast, the guy in headquarters who is responsible for credit cards is astonishingly incompetent, and worse, is one of those folks who lies his way out of his mistakes. If you don't need a credit card (or ATM card), this bank has wonderful, friendly staff.
