Review Genisys Credit Union

Emily is very helpful and informative and helped me out with opening a checking account here. Would recommend to all my friends and family if she didn't know them all by name because theyve been seeing her for years. 10/10 A++++

I have been a member of Genisys Credit Union for years. I have gotten all of my loans, advice, and credit knowledge from their awesome staff. This location in particular has been my best experience that Genisys has given me. When ever I come here in person, I always get great service with Emily and I have recommended dozens to her. Now that I have less time to do business in person I realize that it is impossible to get a hold of any Genisys Credit Union Branch Via phone. Aside from communication, one thing that is really starting to irritate me is how often the ATM is out of order or can't dispense money. I mean 4/5 times I come to this ATM after hours, It is having some type of malfunction that causes me to go up to Genisys up on M59. Sometimes, that one won't even work, although for more often times than not it does work. It's because of this type of inconvenience that I'm looking for another credit union to do business with.

Great place for banking. Super helpful, and always know exactly what to do. Never had a problem.

I have been with Genisys Credit Union for a very long time. My card was recently compromised. I went in to fill out the paperwork and get a new card. First it was in my husbands name, they put it in my name and hooked it to the wrong account. I then had to go in and get it to the right account. When I went to go use it, it was declined. I called the branch to tell them, to see if they could correct the issue. I asked them to please may sure it would work so it was not declined again. I was left on hold, dead silence, for a long while. No apology for the issue, no thank you for holding. Just You are all set. I asked again if they tested it, Yep you are all set. I work in customer service... they really need to improve on theirs.

Tried to refinance my house- mortgage originator changed several things between disclosure and closing(not even legal). Had to take my refinance elsewhere and went smoothly(MB Financial, if interested). They charge "credit insurance" to all loans. Apparently their loan rates don't cover their risk enough so they'll hit you again, for another percentage based "service". Why does a credit score even matter if you're going to charge interest and then another insurance premium on the top? Isn't the interest intended to cover your costs/risks? Fiancé overdrafted accidently after forgetting to write down a charge. They emailed her 4 days after the charges, then cleared several smaller charges out of order, all through the weekend, so a large purchase goes first and then they clear all the $10-$15 charges after to charge a fee on each charge, no matter when you actually over draft. They call it a "courtesy fee". I don't find it very courteous to charge $28 to make sure my card doesn't decline for $16 spent at the zoo. Just under 2x the charge for a "courtesy"? Right.... I went in to ask them if I could shut that "courtesy" off in my account, as I would hate to make a mistake and have them reshuffle charges to maximize profits. Their suggestion would be to open a line of credit so they can charge you a loan to cover charges that should have just declined. Why on earth would I trust you guys to handle a line of credit when every loan or experience I have had with you has been outrageously expensive or downright criminal? I'll be pulling my checking, savings, and car loan to another credit union. Genisys claims to be a credit union, they are very much a high fee bank. There is nothing about them that makes you feel like a member other than basically paying them to "courtesy screw you". If you're reading this and considering opening an account, I cannot stress enough to go elsewhere. If you want to bank with a bank, just go pay Bank of America. If you want a local credit union that is supposed to have better rates and a better feel all around, this is definitely not it. Edit, in response to the reply from genisys: Mortgage is already closed with another bank, so no need to discuss your over $6000 in closing costs on a $125k mortgage. Closed for less then $1k out of pocket. I did contact genisys, physically came in even, to turn that "courtesy" service off, was told the only way was by opening a line of credit. Not happening. So either the person responding here is misrepresenting genisys, or the teller yesterday lied to keep raking in members cash. In either scenario, we will be moving our accounts elsewhere. Added one star for the prompt reply, I guess that's something.
