A credit union that purchases a $200,000 house at auction for $85,000 and then refuses to sell the house at a decent price even when the Massachusetts Attorney General intervenes is not the type of financial institution that has any morals. They are evicting the former owners who fell behind in their mortgage because of a stroke. Even after the community has raised funds, the credit union refuses to negotiate in good faith.

This is a warning to all Direct Federal Credit Union customers with a mortgage at DFCU. Make sure you check your statements for accuracy. Last year, I made a payment to reduce my principal (in addition to the normal monthly payment). This was clearly stated on the payment. However, Direct applied it as an additional monthly payment. Direct's response was that I should have picked up THEIR error within two business cycles (I noticed the error when I did my 2014 taxes this year). Now I will lose the significant benefit of lower total interest paid on my loan from a lower principal balance. Borrowers should not be penalized for the mistakes of lenders, like Direct Federal Credit Union.
