I was a student at Manchester College a few years back and opened an account at Community First. Being a college student, I didn't have much money. My sister, also a student at MC at the time, wrote me a $5 dollar check so I could buy myself a pack of cigarettes so I would stop bumming them off of her. I cashed the check and bought my cigs. A month later I was informed by the bank that the check had bounced (my sis told me to cash the check before a certain day so it wouldn't bounce, which I did, my only guess is that the check sat around before it was sent out. I know it takes checks a few days to go through and I allowed for this.) Needless to say, even if it was my fault I should have been informed earlier than a month after the fact. This little check ended up costing me close to $100 in fees (because even if I didn't know it had bounced the bank was still going to get their money) and has put my name on a credit list, ruining my chances of opening up a new account at any major bank until the end of this business year...thanks guys
