First Northern Credit Union in Chicago, IL

We wanted to open a joint bank account with a local credit union and we thought FNCU had great options to offer; the lady who went over the options was great too. Before going to the bank, I spoke to David and inquired about the required documentation for opening a new account. When we showed up with everything that we had, David created a fuss about a name mismatch (my wife had just changed her name, but not all her IDs had the new name as yet). He wouldn't accept a marriage certificate that I said I'd fax the next day; he wouldn't let her open the account on my wife's old name for now; he wouldn't give us any options to open an account. Finally, when we were about to walk off, he showed me a "White Pages" (website) proof of address that was on my name and asked me if I wanted it. That showed that these guys use backdoor methods just to check up if our address is correct? The state ID wasn't enough for my wife? A US passport was not enough for me? That was ridiculous. David not only gave a cold reception, but was also rude about not telling us what he was doing behind our back. I mean, I wouldn't be able to open an account with them if "White Pages" wasn't updated? Sorry. This is just pathetic customer service - and I thought I already knew what pathetic customer service was. If you guys go in to the W. Monroe St branch, ask for someone else. Thanks.

Go to credit union 1 instead. Although they claim to be part of the share branch network, they refuse to do any work for you. So if you are trying to get anything done via the share branch network AVOID this place. They are completely worthless. You might as well go to a bank. Credit Union 1 just down the street is much more helpful.

I have never written a review online however I was that heated up about my experience today. I sprinted across town to get to this credit union and got there at exactly 4:30.. clearly panting and tired, the guy working said "we're closed". First of all, I got there at exactly 4:30 on a Tuesday, shouldn't they have just been closing? What unfortunate customer service!!! They're in the service industry and had zero compassion nor wanted to listen to anything I had to say. I will never go back! Ever. Go to Credit Union One on Randolph, the lady was very friendly and was also surprised and disgusted with what had just happened.
