Review North Island Credit Union

I have banked with NICU beginning some 20 years ago when some NFCU 20-something (old enough to be my daughter) tried to tell me how to handle my check book. My NFCU acct has been dormant since then and I opened as account with NICU. At that time they had much better loan policies than NFCU. They also processed deposits as soon as they came in and sent out checks on the day you scheduled them. About 10 years ago NICU began to process checks (bill pays) early in the day and deposits late in the day and that little change generated considerable revenue for them based on how it affected my account. I had to push Bill Pays back three days after any expected deposits to avoid their pushing my account negative so they could ding me for overdraft fees. I've complained to NCUA and they just try to run me through endless paper drills without any results. By the way one individual commented that the negative commenters do put their name on their comments. I'm not sure how you read them without seeing the posted names just above the comments. You comment won't post without an email address that links to your name. And the one negative comment about checks clearing in 3-4 days. That's a national banking policy. No bank or credit union clears checks in less than 3-4 days. If you carry a positive balance of several thousand dollars all the time then some institutions will write you a loan to cover your over drafts until your deposit comes in. NICU used to let you check a box that asked that they do that and then they would charge you for that service. I have checked in quite awhile if they still do but they might. So North Island Credit Union I rate three stars while Navy Federal Credit Union I rate one star. The main difference is that when you go into NICU branches they're pretty knowledgeable and professional but when I would go into NFCU branches they obviously have let their In-Service Training go down the tubes and (just before a left them) could barely give you an intelligent answer. At a negative 1 star is USA Fed. CU whose staff knowledge went south 10 years before NFCU's.

Quick in and out.

NICU is ok for regular banking, but do not ask them for a personal loan. I have a 720+ credit score, stable job, stable home, member for 30 years, $X00,000 in assets (they never asked me), minimum $8,000/month income. They would not even give me a $1000 loan for one month. Unbelievable.

High fees are spot on! I seriously want to cry with the endless fees I get from NIFCU. One great example is that if you deposit a check, it takes 3-4 days to clear, so in the mean time you can get overdraft fees even though you have money. I hate Chase bank for their bad integrity when you look at the big picture, but at least if I deposit money into my account they won't charge me fees. Even overdrafts are always refunded if you deposit money by the end of day. Not at the island, at the island there is a fee for everything. CORRUPTION! Then there is fees for statements that they don't even tell you about. When I opened my account they said the island was fee free, I call major lies.

The financial representative Myron definitely knows his stuff when it comes to financing and getting you the right price for whichever car youre looking for. Helped me out a ton! Thanks again.
