I had an account with Wells Fargo years ago, for its direct deposit benefit. My debit card was replaced three times with no explanation or warning. Each time, I asked why, and each time I was given little or no explanation. After the third time, I was finally told that there was rampant fraud at a local gas station, and that any and all cards at risk were just reissued. Which is fine, I supposed, except that I was never contacted to see if my card was in my possession, and each time it was replaced I had to reassign all my electronic bill pay accounts. This happened three times in less than eight months. I finally closed my account there and left. Fast forward to one month ago. My son has his first job, and his employer also does business with Wells Fargo. For his first paychecks (excited and proud!), we went to Wells Fargo in Raleys Town Centre to cash them. We were pressured repeatedly to open an account, to which I replied we would think about it. We politely took their literature and their business card, and left. My son knows all about my problems with the bank in the past, and he had no intention of opening his first account with such a money grubbing, non-friendly business. (His choice, not mine.) The next time he went to the branch--without me--he was told he could not cash the checks without opening an account. He was pressured into opening an account, and when I tried to reach the branch by phone, no on answered either of the lines on the assistant manager's business card, nor did anyone answer the phone number listed online. Guess I'm going to have to make time to go down there now to straighten it out in person, since they're not interested in talking on the phone. By the way, as a point of interest, the Wells Fargo automated system that picked up the phone calls offered me "open a new account" as their second option (after "state your account number"). I get it, Wells Fargo: you want my money. Can I get someone to answer the phone? No? Okay, then. Do yourself a favor, dear readers: avoid this branch (and probably the company) at all costs.
