Capital One in Los Angeles, CA

I applied for a card from Capital One on July 26 and was immediately approved. Cards came in the mail and I called to activate them. They then said they needed me to send a front and back scan of my driver's license to confirm my identity. This was sent and they still did not activate the cards. I called them and they said they could not read the barcode on the card. I spoke to someone again on August 29 and resent the drivers license plus my W2 and even my passport to confirm my ID. The lady said she would get it resolved and call me back the same day. 48 hours later still no call back. I called again and was told the account is closed because their "investigator" could not confirm my ID and that I needed to reapply for the card. Needless to say this company is about as bad as it gets when it comes to customer service. I finally gave up and put the cards through the shredder.

I'm in the process of changing my accounts on this miserable card to another account. They have refused to raise my credit line after 10 years with them. They ding you for late fees. They change the payment due dates w/o notice. And I pay for this crap? No more.

Here are some handy tips for this branch of Capitol One: they have free access to a copious amount of computer generated espresso drinks ( you can even control the amount of caffeine in your drink), lovely tea selection, anybody who is employed with Capital One will treat you with the utmost respect ( they know their financial information inside and out ), parking is validated ( park in adjacent parking structure), there is a street entrance and an internal entrance near elevator, ATM accepts check and cash deposits -- but they don't have a convententional teller per se in this bank, and they don't mind if you plop down on a comfy chair and use your laptop. I flipping LOVE this bank ( formally known as Capital One Cafe)! Maybe it is the future for brick and mortar bank culture. Keep in mind this is inherently different than east coast Capital One banks. It doesn't hurt to remember this services all of California with a different angle than Chase or those other cookie cutter places.

Best bank ever. They pay interest on your checking/debit account (instead of charging a fee like cha$e). They also serve free coffee, like, amazing coffee. They also play good music. If you need to bank, here is a very good place to do so.
