Balboa Thrift and Loan in Chula Vista, CA

I am not sure why there are bad reviews but we had the opposite experience. Our credit was spotty to say the least and could not get financed. Finally Balboa Thrift and Loan came through for us and gave us the opportunity to rebuild our credit. We made payments on time and the company was nothing but a pleasure to deal with. We financed $11k and even paid it off early. I was so pleased that I am going through them again for another vehicle. Great company and nice, pleasant people to work with.

I have been dealing with this bank since 2009 and as long as you keep in touch with them about your account they will help you out. I have only had 1 rude person since I got approved and of course it was handled. I would definitely do business with them again. Those who gave bad reviews.. it's a two way street not one!!!

Besides Amy, everyone who works here is rude. Threatening, demanding, they don't listen to you or let you speak. They talk down to you. I called simply to get information if i wanted to transfer my loan onto someone, she started throwing a fit, asking "why do you need to transfer the loan and get another car when you already have a car" when i told her the car is breaking down on me and i didn't feel safe" she talked down to me about how it was a dumb decision. She had me in tears with how she was talking to me. What's it matter if i want to get a new car? I saved and earned the right to spoil myself with a new car. the girl roahora spoke to me in the most disrespectful manner, when i asked her why she was speaking to me this way and i don't feel comfortable with how she is talking to me and she said "you're taking it wrong" Never have i been treated so poorly.

I have not been with this bank very long however, the people I have Had dealings with have been very nice. Those who are having a difficult time with them take a moment and remind yourself that its a 2 way street. You want respect give respect. And if they won't refinance your auto loan go to a different bank to refinance. If you have had your loan long enough it has improved your credit and other banks will work with you, I recommend a credit Union bank to refinance

Front staff people are very nice. But the individual in charge of my account was very rude (Victor). I made my last payment with a check and that weekend I lost my wallet so I had to cancel my bank account. They would not accept the letter from my bank stating my account was closed due to loss/theft. They charged me a return check fee, late fee and reported me 30 days late and still have not updated my credit report saying my account is paid in full. I was really hoping that paying off my vehicle would boost my credit but they sure ruined it for me!
