I've only used this institution to cash a check from another person's account, but in my limited experience I can tell you that their Berkeley address listed here on google and everywhere else is an empty building, the phone number for that branch is also incorrect, and attempting to find the correct branch info from the 800 # above is a complete joke - the automated voice actually gives incorrect instructions, then insults you by pointing out what you "should have done", which still leads to an eventual hang-up. Certainly the most bizarre experience I've ever had with a banking institution. I must say once I DID finally find the branch, the teller who helped me was very nice.

I appreciated how polite and patient the staff was. Applying at other CU's in the bay can feel like a swindle where the bank tries to trick you into signing away your rights and giving up as much of your personal info as possible. That did not happen at 1st United, and I am grateful that such places still exist.
